I was instantly smitten with this chic ski chalet in Collingwood, Ontario. Unlike many cottages that quickly become inundated with kitsch and craft, Toronto designer Michele Haber has created a clean, chic palate with lots of rustic details that stay true to it's ski chalet status.



A hint of safari chic! -I was immediately drawn to these simple black and white packages perfectly placed on a Springbok hide bench. (I've found an identical one at Pavilion, with ethically gained hides supporting villages in South Africa, it's silky soft and smooth to touch!) Talk about a statement piece, guaranteed to start conversation as your guests enter.

Simple, clean lines, dark ebonised floors and all white walls make the space clean and modern. This 'blank slate' allows for lots of thoughtful layering of interesting pieces and accessories without becoming too cluttered.

A dramatic entrance hall full of interesting layers from vintage skis to equestrian books and a personal black and white photo of a horse to kudu antlers and a Louis Vuitton blanket, there's lots of interesting detail. The silver urn below is actually a polo trophy won by one of the home's owners.


The kitchen was left very simple - deep black floors contrast sharply with creamy white ceilings, full height marble walls add an element of texture and luxury.

The dining area is a beautiful contrast of simple, rustic luxe. The reclaimed table top contrasted with shiny chrome legs perfectly complements the vintage directors chairs upholstered in simple black suede. The shiny silver balls are a beautiful accessory for the holidays that could be used any time of year really.

I loved this bedroom set up the moment I saw it - and no wonder - I have an identical lamp in my entrance console. Their shiny chrome bases tie in beautifully with the tacking on the headboard. I'm not always a huge fan of brown and white cowhide, but I love the textural element it adds here. A soft taupe throw ties it in with a black, white and grey theme.

Of course, it wouldn't be the perfect holiday retreat without a dose of holiday charm. This oversized Santa Claus from a vintage Coca-Cola ad gives you a great big 'Happy Holidays' hello!

I think I could happily stay here until the New Year was well underway - now all we need is a little snow for skiing! (and hot chocolate for afterwards...)
