Diane Wallace's beautiful English garden was featured in Oprah magazine back in 2006 and I've thought of it ever since. This gorgeous rambling garden set on 3 acres has been a labour of love by Diane to herself - after years of intensive study, travel and hands-on work in the garden, Diane has recreated the romantic English Cotswolds in her own backyard.

I love the blend of very manicured, structured boxwoods juxtaposed with the more wild and romantic tall English florals . This space above, known as The Green Room, is comprised of boxwood parterre surrounded by taller hedges gives the illusion of a large outdoor room.


One of my favourite spots in the garden - this lovely rustic bench tucked in the trees.


Diane was heavily inspired by her favourite gardens in the Cotswolds in England, one of her favourites being Sissinghurst, the creation of poet and novelist Vita Sackville-West in Kent. Diane spent weeks photographing and studying this space and others to obtain inspiration for own garden.


She chose a soothing palette of blues and purples to create a restful environment. I love this border of purple salvia, it reminds me of lavender fields.


Another favourite feature of mine - the eponymous statue - a gift from her husband when she first started work on the garden. The Goddess Diana, the huntress adds an artistic focal point.


Diane turned her garage into a Cotswold cottage, complete with overflowing window boxes of ivy, phlox and dahlias.

What's especially inspiring about this space is that despite many naysayers, Diane, with no previous experience gardening, created it herself with much study, effort - and of course, art. Here's to creating your very own dream space!
