When my brother lived in San Francisco and I lived in L.A. we had the typical NorCal v. SoCal verbal wars, usually started by him. He would say L.A. is a smoggy congested pit of soulless movie agents and I would say that I liked to "wear shorts" in the Summer. Now that we're both California ex-pats we've bonded over the common struggle of surviving winter again. Luckily I stumbled on to Juniper Ridge's website, a wonderful eco-friendly company based in Northern California (duh) that makes sachets, soaps, jams, teas, wreaths, herbs—all of it wildcrafted. If I can't smell the sage in Malibu, I'm going to be smelling it in my bathroom. Two items I just ordered are a braid of sweetgrass ($7) for the fireplace (oh yeah, becuase the temp is still in single digits!!!!) and a bar of California Bay Laurel ($6).
