Le Tour de France....et fini.

Every summer we look forward to watching the Tour de France.  It all started, for me at least, with the 7 year winning streak of Lance Armstrong.  My husband is an avid cyclist...and in another time I was too (I like to call myself a former radical chic) Anyhoo, the Tour comes to a close today, congratulations to Alberto Contador.

We will now be back to our normal programming...ie trash tv in the evenings.   Since the Tour de France has been associated with the color yellow, I leave you with some yellow inspiration.  ENJOY.

BTW: When I go to France the next time this is the Tour that I have in mind. Le Trip.  A guided antique tour by Jill Mitchell. Wouldn't THAT be fun????

Have a great week.

Goldenrod...

Javier and I have been enjoying sunny afternoons and seemingly endless fields of goldenrod on our walks through High Park. It seems that all of nature has joined together in one last burst of summer sunshine, and the world is a happier, friendlier place for it...

Perhaps when you see a spot of yellow today, think of it as a little sunbeam sent just for you...

{Here's wishing you sunshine! x }

Weather Forecast: Sunny with cloudy periods

Today's weather is expected to be sunny with short grey periods. Even though I'm off to work I can't wait for a chance to walk in the summer sunshine. There's nothing like a shot of sunny yellow within a sea of grey to brighten up your spirits.

Happy Monday - here's wishing you a spot of sunshine!

Summer Chic in the City

Now you're all in for a real treat today - Daniella from Dress, Design and Decor is here to share one of her very favourite looks for this summer. Daniella and I share a passion for all things J. Crew so when I heard she was going to do a 'room to outfit' post from Jenna Lyon's amazing home, I couldn't wait to see it. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!
Thanks so much Daniella!
Enjoy x

When Shar asked me to do a little fashion guest post, I was so excited! But since i'm just as obsessed with decor, as I am fashion, I couldn't help but mix the two.

I have to admit though, I have a problem... and it goes by the name of J.Crew. I don't know about you, but it seems the minute Jenna Lyons showed up, J.Crew suddenly became fabulous! So when Domino featured Jenna and her lovely home, I was even more impressed by her creative talent. I always come back to her livingroom for inspiration over and over again... the zebra print, the sheepskin, the black, white, & yellow, chalkboard walls, and that amazing chandelier... gorgeous! Turning this room into an outfit is definitely a must.

I like pieces that are comfortable but chic, so I love that J.Crew has a constant supply of the basics with that little something extra. Their tissue tees are so soft and comfortable, and paired with the classic toothpick jean you're already looking chic! I love the bright yellow couch in Jenna's home, and the endless summer cardigan is the perfect way to add some colour, while staying warm in the overly air-conditioned office! Add a little sparkle with J.Crew's gorgeous gems, throw on some simple T-strap sandals, and you're good to go! Oh, but don't forget your bag... every girl needs a purse this fabulous!

Wedding Inspiration: A Sunny Tabletop

With only a few weeks to go till my own wedding this August, I'm frantically trying to scurry around to sort out lots of little details. And, of course, as luck would have it suddenly I'm second guessing all the plans I'd made months ago. One detail I haven't been able to finalize are table tops for the reception. I love the idea of using decorations that can re-purposed and possibly used around the house later on. We only have eight tables, so I am hoping to have a central theme but with each table being unique.

I loved this bright, sunny tabletop on OnceWed by Chelsea of Oh My Deer. Very eclectic and charming. I adore the light fluttering petals of this DIY wonder mobile simply strung together with fishing line.

The multiple vases could easily be used later - and I love this group of small informal blooms vs. a large ostentatious arrangement. We are having a cocktail reception so it is a rather informal affair, I think this style would be a good fit for the tone of the event.

I love the idea of little thank you cards at each seat rather than place cards (always mind your manners!) The lemon wedges are a clever little accent that carries through the colour theme.

Isn't this clever? - old books glued shut then spray painted white serve as props for this tablescape. I love that my favourite little white Ikea vases have been used in this design. And I don't think that anyone would complain about lovely colour themed candy being used in the centre piece. The only danger would be that I might eat them all before we even get started.

Have you seen any fun eclectic centre pieces lately? What do you think of having each table different from each other - will it make life a little easier or more difficult?

{PS - thanks again for all your input! Your comments on balloons earlier were such a big help!}

Painted floor?

This painted floor immediately caught my eye! Perhaps I've found the cure for not being able to afford the Madeleine Weinrib carpet I love - paint and stencils! Normally I'd shy away from something like this but I really love this effect. I could see this in a bedroom or a home office. {Insert airy white linens and some turquose accents...}

I'd be a little nervous to actually put that first coat of paint on. Have you/would you ever paint your floor? Ever try a pattern? I'm anxious to hear what you think!

Soft summer yellow

Sunny, summer days that linger on into warm summer evenings call for the only appropriate shade of buttery, summer yellow. I especially love this colour against white - so crisp, clean and refreshing.

A yellow Christmas...

Boughs and wreaths and ribbons in reds and greens have started to pop up all over town. Sequins and glitter dazzle in soft twinkling lights. While I'll always love the tradition behind red and green palette, the thought of stepping out of the box and personalizing with an unconventional colour made me instantly happy. A simple white Christmas tree adorned with bright yellow balls make a big statement. Why not decorate in the colour you love the most, or that best suits your current decor. Lee Kleinhelter's white and yellow theme would certainly make the season merry and bright (below and bottom) .

This would be my suggestion for a perfect holiday place setting at Lee's bright, beautiful space. A napkin bow? A perfect simple, chic accessory and functional too!

Colour Escapades: Black + White + Yellow

A bold and energetic combination for a Monday morning simple black and white with big jolts of bright yellow make you instantly alert, perhaps an alternative to your morning coffee. The room is a study of contrasts - simple black and white against bright colour, the intricately carved chairs against the simple pedestal table, the ornate gold leaf mirror against the simple white wall and decor, the intricate mosaic pattern of the chest against the simple black and white tiles.

This dining area in the home of photographer Henry Wilson clearly demonstrates two things that he is passionate about - Indian interiors and ultra modernism. I think showcasing your passions in life throughout your home always guarantees your house will make you happy. You're constantly surrounded by things you love.

The two bright yellow canvases immediately catch your eye and create a form a distinct colour theme along with the bright oncidium orchids. This is an easy way to tie your decor together when working on a budget, a few impactful accents - maybe even your own DIY canvas art, are the perfect way to tie everything together.

These gorgeous carved dining chairs are like pieces of sculpture. I love the idea of each piece being able to stand on its own as a beautiful piece of art.

Thinking that it is the weather that has me wanting more of yellow in my house...unfortunately for me, Mr. O does NOT like yellow (this is fairly new news to me) so I want to keep him happy.  For now I will just dream, and maybe a bowl of lemons on the table will suffice.

Thinking about all my blogland friends and family up north that are neck deep in Snow.
I Know you are making lemons into lemonade...only a couple more months....

Cheers.
