All in one kitchen

I recently came across this amazing all in one kitchen system. Made in Italy by Meneghini, the mini-kitchen fits into a wood or lacuqered cabinet that looks like a piece of furniture. However, it opens up to reveal 2 electric rings, a sink and faucet, a fridge and 2 storage compartments - magic!I think a cabinet like this would be great for a mountain or beach cottage - or maybe a city studio apartment in NYC where one doesn't cook at home. I immediately thought of the beach huts that Meg at Pigtown talked about last week as a perfect place for one of these contraptions.I especially love this image of the item in wood with a mirrored top. What do you think? Good or bad?

More from Highpoint: Hooker furniture

Another showroom I visited at Highpoint Market was Hooker furniture.
Much like Century furniture, Hooker carries a variety of lines with something for everyone. Above is Harbour Pointe which reminded me of a charming Maine cottage. They offer more contemporary lines as well. I loved the cerused oak finishes and the streamlined form of this armchair.

Small details always make such a huge difference to turn a piece of furniture into something special. The turned edge on the painted wood headboard above starts to create a cozy space.I love a good nightstand (maybe because I don't really have one in my tiny apartment) and this one had a large top but also a great shelf for books. Notice the great hardware too.The side of this accent table was adorned with an oversized postage stamp and postmarks - a painterly touch great for an informal den; especially for someone who likes to travel.

The drawers of this distressed dresser come pre-lined in a pretty paper -that reminds me to freshen up my own drawer liners!

This charming accent table, in a rather old fashioned gothic revival style, is enlivened by a coat of fresh green paint as if you had just picked it up from your local flea market but without all of the work! So many good ideas for my own apartment here.

Is it Christmas yet?

I am so in love with this Carlson Etagere from William Sonoma Home! If only I had the space for it I would get 2 for all my design books (and china). Of course, if someone at WSH wants to cut me a huge deal I could definitely MAKE room! *wink wink, nudge nudge*
The details are just gorgeous, like these feet, gilded accents and worn ebonized wood finish.
They're on sale now, so make me a very happy little blogger and buy a pair for yourself and send me pictures!

Have you Heard?

The inestimable Grant Gibson is having a sale at One King's Lane from July 24th-26th!
I think many of us know and love some items from his own apartment that will be included, such as this oval portrait.Or this gorgeous dining room chair! Also included in the sale will be 15 beautiful b&w framed photographs from his travels.
Probably the thing I'm most excited for (that you'll have to beat me to) are these sumptuous pillows! Good luck and happy shopping!

Century Furniture

I realized I have been back from High Point Market for months now and have never shared my favorite pieces from some of the manufactorers we saw! I'll start off with Century, probably my favorite. What I love about Century, other than their great quality, is that they span Classic to modern and everything in between as evidenced by these pictures. Growing up, my grandparents had a lot of furniture from Century (albeit their more modern collections) and so it's a brand I return to over and over again.

I'll start with Century's newest collection: Archive Home. This line is based a lot on the current trends for light, bleached and natural woods: think Belgian style and reclaimed woods.

I loved that they included a lot of the designer's sketches -such as the one of the table base seen above. This little quatrefoil side table is just the perfect spot for a drink beside a chair.

The arms of this linen sofa looked very Axel Vervoordt inspired to me; so elegant.

Many of the finishes were rustic, but you needn't worry about splinters; they know what they're doing.

Another favorite line of mine was the Oscar de la Renta Collection. I especially loved this parchment game table; perfect for the corner of any stylish living room.

This tortoise and parchment side table reminded me a lot of something my grandparents would have had (in a good way!).

This x bookcase from the Oscar de la Renta collection would be perfect for any room of the house. I could especially see it in a bedroom or den.

As I mentioned in my previous post, my favorite collection was the grand tour. The quality was outstanding and some of the pieces could fit into not only very traditional settings, but also more contemporary. The top of this handsome accent table is almost too pretty to cover up with anything!

The unusual treatment of the Grand Tour bombe chest makes it perfect for an entry hall or more modern hotel lobby.

The lines of this side chair in mahogany and walnut remind me of a klismos -can I have 12 of these for my dream dining room please?

While we're at it, I'll take one of these Mica Mirror cabinets for my bareware!Last but not least, the finish on this red faux tortoise chairside table was just incredible; again I wouldn't want to cover it with anything! I hope you enjoyed the tour as much as I did!

shopping

While in Provincetown, I picked up this ceramic bird at one of my favorite shops, Yates & Kennedy, that reminded me so much of the cute birds at Deyrolle that I wanted to bring back so badly (but couldn't make it through customs). A few people made fun of me calling it 'granny' but I just think it's adorable. What do you think?
At the same store I also picked up this beautifull scented candle by Patch in NY (their website has the BEST music in the background). Named 'owl' it is scented of sandalwood, tobacco and vetiver and I can't wait for fall to light it!
I also stopped by John Derian's shop where I picked up a few things but this year I didn't take any pictures unfortunately. His shop is a MUST either in Provincetown or NYC! Have you done any summer shopping?

John Derian

While on Cape Cod last week, I was able to finally stop in the John Derian store in Provincetown.I had looked for it last year on my annual beach pilgrimage but couldn't find it! The saleswoman told me they only put up the sign this year -good thing! Still not the easiest place to find, down a small street behind some bushes, but the store did not disappoint with so much to see (in such a small space!). Stage right from the doorway were what we come to expect from John Derian, the decoupage! I love the poufs under the table too!And more decoupage -I loved this collection of sea-botanicals.
These charming little tumblers were towards the rear of the store -perfect for a tablesetting at the beach!I was so tempted to get one of these ostrich feather dusters and live out my french maid fantasies ( just kidding!!!)There was a selection of Cire Trudon candles hiding in the back of the store. I just LOVED the 'trianon' scent - maybe i'll pick one up in Paris next month when Heather and I pay a visit.I've always loved these busts that they make, I just wish they came in the muliple scents (like trianon!).The bedding was all so cozy, I could have taken a nap right then and there! The store was so adorable I could have happily bought everything inside. I had to be content with a decoupage tray of antique stamps and a small notebook to use while in Paris for sketching. I also picked up a nice tote bag with Derian's logo on it for my groceries. If you are in Ptown, it's worth a visit and of course so are the New York stores. Tell them ArchitectDesign sent you (and ignore the looks of utter confusion!).

New Deal

Have you noticed that there are a lot of deals to be had right now? I stopped by my local West Elm this past weekend and found a huge storewide clearance going on. I got the above silk pillow with cute birds for 60% off; it lives on one of my dining room chairs which you see as you walk into my apartment. Softens up all of the wood, don't you think?Something I didn't need but couldn't passs up was one of their ladderback chairs in white, for only $30! I love the stylish simplicity of these and the construction is surprisingly good. Extra seating for guests: check! (till then it holds a stack of books and a plant). On a sad note, Smith & Hawken is closing its doors. They have carried the most perfect gardening and houseplant items since 1979. Coincidentally -their logo is also my initials! As they're clearing out their stores, I had to grab one of their glazed terra cotta pots with a crackle finish as it prominently displays my initials for my window sill at work.
