A tribute

Nike the Goddess of Victory with her laurel wreath.

A teacher affects eternity:
he can never tell where his influence stops.
Henry Adams

I just found out last night that my 3rd grade teacher Gloria Marx passed away at the age of 86...and I cried...I was really affected, which really struck me.  Here almost 30 years later, I still think about her, and smile.  She was the most amazing teacher, and with the tributes on her obituary page, I know I am not the only one that feels this way.  Not only did she teach reading, writing, and math, she engaged the imaginations of her pupils through the spoken word, with her stories, and humor, and wit.  She was famous for teaching Greek Mythology, and it was a high honor to be crowned with the Laurel Wreath in her class....

I see her now an angel above us, crowning us all and proud of our achievements...with her wings and smiling eyes.

Thank you Mrs. Marx....you will always hold a special place in my heart.

Mum is the word

hrysanthemum that is...it the quintessential flower of this time of year, one that will last thru the fall and to Christmas, and if you are lucky will come back year, after year.  It got me to thinking about all of the chrysanthemum decor and style ideas, because it IS a pretty flower and makes a very graphic impression.  Enjoy.

(just to be clear, sometimes I don't proof read and it may have come across at first that these were photos of MY house...I WISH!  They were attributed in the first version, but I think it got lost in translation!)

*******************

This is my spot in the morning.

My sofa on the porch.
This is where I have been enjoying my morning cup of jo lately....curled up on the outdoor sofa, with the doors flung open.  These spring mornings are so nice.

Notice the new cushions...green and navy.  One of my favorite color combos.  AND we finally got our ferns.  A necessity for any southern porch:)  This weekend will be spent in the backyard, planting all of the flowers I have been meaning to get to...oh and weeding...yuck:(

It is already the middle of May and I haven't' done the first bit of planting....very unlike me!  The only good thing is that my manicure has lasted much longer, HA!

Is it Thursday already?  Is it just me, or is time flying by????

Should they stay or should they go???

my beautiful fern and egg prints.
I have been collecting things for my booth for a while now.   Sticking to the policy that I only buy what I love...well the problem with that is, that I if really love something, I want to KEEP it.  I am selfish that way...not wanting to share the goods.  Ya'll, seriously, This MIGHT be a problem.   I am opening a booth to FIND and SELL, not KEEP.

These little numbers have been sitting in a nice pile next to my computer, staring at me, pleading, please put us in your bedroom....we would be so pretty there.  And those little eggs, yeah, you guested it, they want to go in my guest bedroom.

I have always LOVED the fern prints (you KNOW I love the color green), and the eggs are growing on me.

Sooooooo the question remains...

Should they stay or should they go...to a new home?????

(surely I will find some ferns and eggs for a steal of a deal somewhere else...) SURELY...sigh:):)

Smoke and Mirrors.

Seriously, do you have to sit right in the middle of my picture...I say.  I love this spot, he says.
BTW: He groweled when I tried to move him....enter people food, he moved quickly:)
I have been asked on numerous occasions, "does your house always look so good"?  Is it EVER messy? Well I have to let you in on a little secret...NO and YES.  I am just like every other mother, trying to juggle it all, and the piles of laundry add up and the kids rooms are disaster areas, and, and and...YES, IT GETS MESSY...BIG TIME!

However,  there are a few things that remain true....I DO like having fresh flowers around...it hides the mess (doesn't it?) I DO try to pick up in the evenings, to allow myself a glorious 30 minutes of living in a picked up house...And there is a HUGE difference between TIDY and CLEAN!   Please, please, please don't look at my baseboards.

Another thing I love is creating vignettes, styling and taking photos of them.  Which normally end up on this blog...I think it is fair to let you in on the big secret.... a lot of these vignettes include moving all mess just inches away from the lens of the camera!  For a recent "shot" that I was creating for an upcoming ad, I had to tear apart a section of my house.  The dining room.

I actually have a funny story, I texted my sister a photo and she said "I WANT THAT STARBURST MIRROR!"  Does the store give you a discount?"  And I sent her the following photos and said, " the starburst is in my DINING room, smoke and mirrors, my dear!"

This my friends is the mess behind a good photo.

Little boys mind...
Oh, dining room in another spot...must use it for a emergency vehicle party! Perfect parking garage!

Just a mess, why do I do this to myself!
Smoke and Mirrors my friends.
So when you all see the perfect magazine photos, or photos on blogs.... just remember what is behind the scenes.  Much more like "real life".  But it is fun to pretend that this is the way my house looks.

Just wanted to disspell the myth that I might be neat freak, soooooo untrue!

Happy Monday!

Tea anyone?

Aren't these tea containers so pretty?  And wouldn't a collection of them look so nice.

Lucky for me I have 12 of them...

of varying shapes and sizes.

Scored at an auction yesterday.  You know something like love at first sight....but really don't have a place for them.  Thinking they are destined to be sold...but I don't know that I can bear to split them all up.  They look so pretty all together.

They instantly reminded me of this....

There is just nothing like a collection of the same type of object with varying heights and weights and textures.
