Sawhorse Table

A closeup of my most recent creation.

Has anyone else noticed the sawhorse tables are everywhere?

Now that is good idea!

via Remodelista

I personally really like them, I think they are functional in most spaces, can be used as a desk or a dining table...they can be modified easily, wood on top, glass on top, zinc top, marble top....you get the idea:)

Well recently, during a friend/client install/zhush (a very rushed, need to have this done because we are having a party in a couple hours zhush.)  I looked around the corner of the driveway and saw some sawhorses....I had an AhHAH moment, if ever there was one.  The next conversation went something like this.

I ran inside and said...."Are you using those Sawhorses for anything?"

"Well, we were going to use it for the canoe, but as you can see..."

I interrupted the thought (this is a friend and I can do rude things like that!) And said "I just found your table."

The reaction was, "I thought we were using the other one."

"Well, I just found a better option, Trust me."

"you know we have a party in a few hours, but I trust you."

Thank goodness for friends/clients that trust, because I was able to pull it off, and it is FABULOUS!!!!  A beautiful table for $26!!!!  $26 you ask...no way.  Yes, way!!!! and the money is in the top.  It looked like this when I bought it.

Hollow Core Door from Lowes $26

Voila!!!!  Table for 6 or 8

2 hours before guests were to arrive, I decided to paint it.  There was doubt in everyone's eyes.  First I mixed leftover wall paint with water to get a whitish base, and then I went over it with leftover black paint mixed with water.  All with a rag.  It totally goes with the real worn sawhorse bases.

Here is me saying
"Um, yeah...I just finished this 2 hours ago...please remember to use a coaster:)"

What is great about this table, is that it will double as a desk.  The cool black leather chair on the side will be behind it, and a lamp(s) will be added on the side.  Versatility at it's best!

It really adds to the rustic/chic vibe we are going for in the space.

Most out of the box retailers have created some version of the sawhorse legs and table from under $50 to A couple thousand.

OR you can buy yourself some 2 by fours (or find some old worn decking on the road) and build some of your own the world is your "sawhorse" oyster!

Oh, and FYI I am on the rerun of Nate again today.  My 5 minutes of fame has been extended to 10!

Vintage Desks on the brain...

My baby girl starts kindergarten on Monday!  It is an exciting time in our house...and Eliza is the most excited of all.   She can't wait for homework!  She even thinks getting up early is going to be fun...(not so much for her love to sleep in mom:)  With all of this school talk,  it got me to thinking about the desks that I used when I started school, and what people are doing with them now.  Here are a few ideas.  I am a sucker for industrial chic, and I think an old school desk fits the bill.

I really like this idea.

Isn't this kitchen great???  Loving the fridge.

(a really fun site that features kids room design)

This is where old desks go to wait for someone's next great decorating project....look at all of the colors...I am a bit inspired.  Maybe this is a project I will do, when I have all of this extra time on my hands when good ol' school starts...

Afternoon Showers

Another recent impending storm in the car photo.

T here is something that I love about thunderstorm, especially in in the afternoon light. The dark blue grey with the green and the backlight with the sun on the trees.  So when I was driving to my hometown of Aiken, SC to see my parents for the day, I just had to take these shots.  I was in the sun, and the storm was moving towards us, it was about 5:00 and the light was GEORGEOUS.

I did endure a battle wound to take these shots....My feet are hating me, b.c I stepped on a blackberry vine that pulled under my toes in my sandels... I spent 30 minutes picking briars out of my feet.  (my daughter said, "Wow mommy, that must hurt, b.c I really cried really hard when I had 1 splinter!", at least she understood my pain:)

Here are a few rooms that may have been inspired by a storm.

I am in LOVE!  I love how delicate it is, I can see this over my dining table. Although, a little above my price range.

Been Lantern Hunting lately and have found a treasure trove or product and inspiration.  I am really liking the oversize lanterns over the dining table.  They can be light and airy because you can see thru them, but also bring in some drama....definintely and option.

Enjoy.

A confession...

A grouping of objects in my living room...
I am really into the color orange  these days.

My favorite little orange container in its previous location and house.

Ijust can't stand it any more, I don't know who I was kidding 5 rooms in 5 months.   I am such a design fanatic that I move around from room to room, doing projects, fiddling with this or that making things feel like home. I LOVE to fiddle, I LOVE to move things around, I LOVE little projects...the pride I have when I have finished something, and I can say, I DID THAT:)  Let's face it, my house will NEVER be totally done.  And I really kind of like it that way:)    I am just going to post what I am doing right now, what i am into at the moment.   I want to shout 'HERE IS MY HOME, MY WORK IN PROGRESS, I LOVE IT'!!! I am proud of what we as a family have accomplished in the past few months.

My home is ever changing, I am ever changing.... and THAT is THAT:):)

Who knows, I might have a Fiddling Freakout and finish 5 rooms in 5 days:):)

Have a great day:)
